We left early on the second day to drive up the hill to Machu Picchu and hike up to the Sun Gate.  It seemed grueling, but we were up and back by 10:30, hiked some more around Machu Picchu, then went back to town, had lunch, did some shopping, rode the train back to Ollantaytambo, and got on our bus headed back to Cusco, stopping on the way at a cooperative of weavers in Casco.  This is not a trip for lightweights.
